In the video we start by looking at the key of G minor. We simply find our pentatonic 1 shape, add the extra notes and away we go! Work your way through shape 2, 3, 4 and 5 to really push yourself to memorise the shapes. All of the shapes are written out below: (see website) We then looked at the key of G major. We simply find our pentatonic 2 shapes, add the extra notes and away we go! Work your way through shape 3, 4, 5 and 1 to really push yourself to memorise the shapes. All of the shapes are written out below: (see website) Again, if you don't understand how to find the pentatonic shapes in major then we would highly recommend tackling the Intermediate Electric Course, as we go through this in detail. More specifically, the 'Hendrix Style' unit where we go through matching up the CAGED chord shapes with pentatonics. 👉 VIEW THE FULL COURSE Why not check out the website for the full course absolutely free! 🤍 👉 SOCIAL MEDIA Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel or like our Facebook and Instagram pages: 🎸 🤍 🎸 🤍 Above all, keep learning and keep having fun! 😀🎸🙃

Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with a look at the playing style of eternal rock guitar legend Jimmy Page. I've been a fan of Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page's music since I was an early teenager. After discovering their music, I instantly liked Jimmy's riffs, licks, and solos. Needless to say, I was hooked as soon as the Led Zeppelin bug bit me, and this lesson taps into a number of Jimmy's favorite scales, licks, and common ideas that appear in his phrases, fills, solos, and electric playing style overall. These areas include mixing the minor/major pentatonic, the minor Blues scale, and the hybrid pentatonic scales - which are Jimmy's favorite scales to use for building riffs, licks, and solos. From there, we're hitting a number of his favorite phrases, bending/vibrato licks, sequenced runs, open-string ideas, and uncovering Jimmy's apparent interest in using pull-offs - as his playing features more pull-offs than hammer-ons, and this lesson taps into those areas and much more in this episode! If you're a Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin fan looking for some insight into Jimmy's elusive lead guitar concepts, approaches, and techniques, then this episode is right up your alley, but for those that are new to Led Zeppelin's mighty rock influence and music, not to mention Jimmy Page's legendary fretboard moves and ideas - this lesson to totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Jimmy Page is one of the greatest masters of guitar tone in the history of the electric guitar. He has set the standard for a variety of unique tones throughout his career. In this episode, I reveal the secret to Jimmy Page's guitar tone...and it's not what you think! You will hear me demonstrate Page's tone by playing the opening riffs for one song off of each Led Zeppelin album using the same gear and guitar. For the episode, I primarily use my '72-'73 Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Deluxe Reverb tube amp (not a Marshall!) and a drive pedal (Bogner La Grange - set to only 25% gain). I supplement that occasionally with a Spark boost pedal, a Ventris reverb pedal and a Nemesis delay pedal. Spoiler Alert...the only other steps in my signal chain that I rely on are the 3 H's! (Head, Heart & Hands)... Apart from being a composer, educator, and guitarist, Carl Baldassarre is also a respected Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page aficionado. 🤍carlbaldassarremusic.com #LedZeppelin #JimmyPage #CarlBaldassarre

Hello, Welcome to first-time visitors! I am Carl Baldassarre, a composer, musicologist, and guitarist! If you already know me, welcome back!! I'm excited to share with you another video! In this episode, I address the long-standing question, "Is Jimmy Page Sloppy?" There are several layers to this question and the answer requires some nuance. In a nutshell, the answer is both Yes and, definitely, No. The answer depends on the difference between actual sloppiness and artistic expression perceived as sloppiness. Moreover, when there are moments of sloppiness, there are usually three categories: 1) being truly sloppy (due to bad nights or bad habits) 2) taking risks to push artistic boundaries and creativity 3) critics misinterpreting emotion and expression as sloppiness To further my evaluation, I look into the following aspects and questions: 1) Quotes from Jimmy Page on his "technique". 2) Withering quotes from "art" critics 3) Recognition that sloppiness (however so defined) ONLY occurred during live performances and, furthermore, almost entirely during guitar solos! 4) Sloppiness in live performances was absolutely not pervasive. In fact, it almost NEVER occurred during the song, riffs, or rhythm parts. 5) Recognizing that Jimmy Page's studio performances were actually breathtaking displays of emotion and original technique on the whole. The only exception being a handful of exceedingly profound emotional moments which were left in the final mixes at the expense of the pursuit perfection. Thank goodness! 6) There is an uncanny analogy between Jimmy Page as a guitarist and the Impressionist painters of the 1880's. 7) Impressionism vs. Jimmy Pageism: Both were expressing emotion. Both broke from conventional figuration toward the abstraction. Both used techniques which were considered "ugly" (brush strokes & picking). Both were met with harsh criticism about being "sloppy". Both require the audience to perceive the whole of the art from a distance, whilst revealing true passion upon close inspection. 8) Illustrating Page's "impressionistic" solo picking technique on Heartbreaker which is the source of misunderstood labeling of sloppiness. 9) The real question should be "is emotion sloppy?" 10) We can debate the question of sloppiness, but there is certainly no debate on whether Jimmy Page is...an original! "The definition of originality is when a work of art is identifiable with its creator." What Is The Full Scale? Jimmy Page Style Guitar Lesson 🤍 👉 View the full course for free here: 🤍 👉 Purchase & Download the full course here: 🤍 #yourguitaracademy #guitarlessons #jimmypage 🎸 About This Lesson: The full scale is more commonly known as the major or minor scale. However, when you learn the pentatonic scale first, it makes sense to call it the full scale as it turns the 5 note pentatonic into a 7 note 'full' scale! To learn this properly we will take a look at the A minor Pentatonic and the A minor 'full' scale. As you can see, the full scale has two extra notes that will make the scale sound far more 'minor' than the pentatonic does! People often think of it as a darker more moody sound than the minor pentatonic. Let's put this into practice and learn our first shape. We are basing the first shape around the A minor pentatonic shape 1, so it should be fairly familiar territory! 😀🎸🙃

It has dynamics, quick licks, it's 'fidgety' and yet manages to find space, and of course, it uses all of the scale shapes and bluesy ideas that we come to expect from Jimmy Page. We will not be focusing on learning the entire perfectly, It's just too difficult to get the timings exactly right. Instead, we will be learning each lick separately and you can take your favourites with you! We are also making use of chromatic ideas to lead in to different areas of the neck, another technique that Jimmy Page makes regular use of in structuring his solos. 👉 View the full course for free here: 🤍 👉 Purchase & Download the full course here: 🤍 #yourguitaracademy #guitarlessons #jimmypage 🎸 About This Lesson: To complete all the shapes, we need to now learn shape 4 and 5 of the full scale. Once again we will take the pentatonic shape 4 and 5 and add the extra two notes. They look like this (See the website) When dealing with scale shapes that have an odd number of notes on each string, it can be a good chance to try a different picking technique known as 'economy picking'. This simply means that you restrict your alternate picking to the most economic friendly approach... i.e. not doing down up strokes if you don't need to. Here is the first scale shape tabbed out using economy picking (see website): For example, on the E string, you would play a down, up, downstroke for the A, B and C notes. This means that when you move to the A string your plectrum is already facing downwards. So, rather than dropping over the A string to come back upwards in an upstroke, you can simply drop through the string by continuing your already downward movement. This, therefore, saves an extra motion and is, therefore, the most economic picking available! Please be sure to watch the video to the end to see this in action. 😀🎸🙃

In this video, we take a look to see just how Jimmy Page so masterfully uses dynamics in his solo. dan makes the argument that he uses speed and volume changes as a dynamic, rather than just volume. During a simple lick, Jimmy Page will add changes in volume and changes in speed to create an almost wave-like sound that provides the dynamic energy in the track. Dan uses two example licks to demonstrate this point. To help you out in learning the licks, here are the scale shapes we are using. 👉 View the full course for free here: 🤍 👉 Purchase & Download the full course here: 🤍 #yourguitaracademy #guitarlessons #jimmypage 🎸 About This Lesson: We have learnt this new full scale based around A minor, but the good news is that we can just as easily apply all of this new information to major. Just as the 5 pentatonic shapes work for major and minor, so do the five full-scale shapes. For example, if we wanted to play the shapes in A major we would simply find our 5 pentatonic shapes in A major and add on the full-scale shapes. Easy as that! Suddenly we know every single position of A major as well as A major pentatonic! If you don't understand how to find the pentatonic shapes in major then we would highly recommend tackling the Intermediate Electric Course, as we go through this in detail. 😀🎸🙃

Remember to also dynamically really attack this lick at the beginning and then gradually soften the lick towards the end. The scale shapes you are using look like this: (See website). Lick 4 is where we expand on the previous lick and move across to shape 2 and then shape 3! The key element to making this work is again in the dynamics. You want to start the lick softly, then as you hit shape 3, you hit the notes more firmly. Be sure to watch this in action in the video. As we go further through the solo, you'll need to use the tab to nail each lick. In this lesson, we are looking at licks 3-4 (their positions are marked just above the tab). Both of these licks use simple repeating patterns that are quite easy to play fast once you master the picking. They have a distinct signature Jimmy Page sound that you'll recognize if you're a fan of Led Zeppelin.
