Llyn Padarn is a glacially formed lake in Snowdonia, Gwynedd, north Wales, and is an example of a moraine dammed lake. The lake is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) long (about 240 acres) and at its deepest point is 94 feet (29 m) deep, and is one of the largest natural lakes in Wales. At its south-eastern end it is linked to the neighbouring Llyn Peris (which forms the lower reservoir of the Dinorwig power station). The busy village of Llanberis lies on the southern banks of the lake. Most of Llyn Padarn is owned by Gwynedd Council and is part of Padarn Country Park. Whilst kayaking, rowing and sailing are permitted on the lake, powered craft require permission to use it. Bangor University Rowing Club row at Llyn Padarn. In April 2014 Llyn Padarn was designated as Bathing Water under the Bathing Water Directive (2006/7/EC). The outflow of Llyn Padarn is on the northern shore and is called Afon Rhythallt, which passes by the village of Brynrefail, Gwynedd and becomes Afon Seiont below Pont Rhythallt, near Llanrug. It reaches the sea at Caernarfon. Padarn Country Park is located on the northern flank of the lake, including Coed Allt Wen, a rare and ancient sessile oak woodland. Both the woodland and Llyn Padarn are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The Llanberis Lake Railway also runs along its eastern bank and various recreational activities take place on the lake, especially during the summer. These include canoeing, boating and fishing. The lake was the venue for the rowing events of the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Former local bus company Padarn Bus, which operated between 1979 and 2014 from a base at nearby Llanberis, was named after the lake.[1] Llyn Padarn is named after Padarn, an early 6th century saint, who has a church dedicated to him in Llanberis. This video was taken from the Village Car Park in Llanberis, Wales. The lake is Llyn Padarn. Llanberis is a very pretty village on the North West entrance to Snowdonia National Park. I definitely recommend visiting Snowdonia and Llanberis the next time you visit Wales.
My Snowdonia Walks Playlist 🤍 This did go a little astray but as you can see there is so much to do! I’m probably 50% fitness right now but as long as you give yourselves time this is very doable. Sincerely one of the best days I’ve ever had in Snowdonia and you can pick the walk up from any of the car parks etc we pass. I just chose to pick the northern end of the lake to start. My top tips are bring an up to date map ( mine is 20 years old ) and the willingness not to rush because you will be massively rewarded! Oh and ps I didn’t quite get the Welsh right at the start!! All the very best and stay safe. Paul This is the link to that Mount Snowdon walk 🤍

In this vlog I visit the much photographed lone tree at Llyn Padarn and Dolbadarn Castle in Snowdonia National Park. Just because somewhere is a popular landscape photography subject does not mean that you shouldn't visit and get your own version of the image.
After sticking to the West Coast for a few days and realising I'd have to return home sooner than planned, Poppy and I headed straight up to Snowdonia in North Wales. After taking a bit of a break due to a day-long headache we woke up fresh and ready to go the following morning. We had arrived at Llanberis, ground zero for many who take on the challenge of walking (or simply catching a train) to the peak of Snowdon. But we had other plans... SUP with your dog? The terrain of the route was a combination of woodland paths, tracks and lanes around Llyn Padarn with some great viewpoints along the way. The walking was mostly easy on level ground except for some steps and a little moderate ascent and descent near the start of the walk. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were no stiles to climb over, just one squeeze-stile. What gear is on your hiking backpacking checklist? The castle was used as a manor house for some years, before falling into ruin. In the 18th and 19th century it was a popular destination for painters interested in Sublime and Picturesque landscapes. It is now owned by Cadw and managed as a tourist attraction, and is protected as a grade I listed building.
